Namibian West Coast Fishing
Swakopmund and surroundings offer great opportunities for recreational fishing. Kabeljou, Black Tail and Steenbras belong to the most commonly caught fish. But there is also a large variety of sharks living in the Namibian part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Dolphin and seal tours
These tours are among the most popular activities in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. With a small boat or catamaran, guests visit the Walvis Bay harbor area and then drive out to the old lighthouse. On the boat trip, visitors learn all sorts of interesting facts about the port, the Atlantic and the animal world. You often see dolphins, the crazy seals almost always jump into the boat. With a little luck you can also watch whales and Mola Molas. At the end there is a light lunch on the boat, with oysters and sparkling wine - a great experience.
Desert tours
The desert tours are undoubtedly one of the most fascinating excursions one can do in Swakopmund. Various providers drive into the Namib Desert between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and let the visitor participate in the secrets of the desert. The observation of dancing white spiders, desert chameleons, transparent geckos and many other animal and plant species are just breathtaking. In addition, the visitor learns a lot about the Namib. The tour is rounded off with a short, exciting dune drive at the end.
There are many variations on the desert tours, for example desert bike tours or quad bike tours in the desert.
A special expedition option are tours to Sandwich Harbor, which run south along the coastline at Walvis Bay until you reach the popular Sandwich Harbor.
Quad Bike Tours
Quad bike tours in Swakopmund promise an adventure with lots of adrenaline and unique fun. In addition to pure 30-minute driving fun adventures, other organizers also offer quad tours with visits to historic places around Swakopmund, on which you will receive a lot of information about Swakopmund and the surroundings.
Kayak tours in Walvis Bay
Kayak trips in the Atlantic Ocean, often accompanied by seals and pelicans, are an option for all those who would like to get some exercise during their Namibia vacation. Here you have the opportunity to explore the Walvis Bayer harbor lagoon in a kayak. Playing with the funny Cape fur seals is a highlight of this tour.
Fat bike tour
Another very active activity is the Swakopmund fat bike tour. Various tours are offered, from short tours in Swakopmund to full-day tours with exploration of Sandwich Harbor. One of the most popular excursion is the 12km long fat bike desert tour, which leads through the Swakop dry river and the exciting dune landscapes. There are also e-bike options.
Skydiving
For the adrenaline addicted Namibia traveler, tandem jumps are offered from Swakopmund air field. The well-known Swakopmund Skidiving Club offers a half-hour sightseeing flight over the dunes of the Namib and along the coastline. Afterwards you throw yourself out of the airplane from a height of approx. 3000 meters with a trained and experienced parachutist.
Camel riding
A more relaxed adventure is camel riding near Swakopmund. On camel back, you can explore the Swakopmund area on a short guided tour.
Sightseeing flights over Swakopmund and the desert
If you want to experience the desert and adjacent areas from a bird's eye perspective, it is worth booking a panoramic flight. Many different tours are offered. Often the beautiful Sossusvlei or the shipwrecks of the Skeleton Coast are also among the tour’s highlights.
Beach day / Swimming in the Ocean
Although the water temperature in Swakopmund does not promise tropical hot swimming pleasure, it is still worth going into the water, especially in the warmer months from December to March. At “Langstrand” or long beach - the beach between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay you can comfortably build sandcastles with the children. Directly in Swakopmund, at the Mole, you can take a quick dive in and enjoy the calm waters. Otherwise, the Atlantic is rather stormy and offers kite surfers in particular all the requirements for a great adrenaline experience.
Shopping / souvenir market
Swakopmund offers many shops in which not only tourist souvenirs are offered but also clothing, books and much more. A stroll through town is definitely worthwhile here, as almost all shops can be reached safely and comfortably on foot.
A special highlight is the street market, where many friendly dealers sell African handicrafts and souvenirs. Unlike the better-known wood carving market in Okahandja, guests are hardly bothered here, the atmosphere is very relaxed.
Miscellaneous
Swakopmund also has other interesting things to offer in between. The Swakopmund Museum is definitely worth a visit. The small aquarium is just as nice as the snake and reptile park around the corner. In the Kristallgalerie (Crystal gallery) one can be enchanted by the magic of gemstones, semi-precious stones and crystals.
